Whole 30, Second Trimester & Toddler, Naughty Day 4

Ok, not so bad, but I did decide to cave on W30’s “nooo pancakes” rule. I’m totally in agreement with the rule, just perhaps not for toddlers and pregnant mamas. So like I said, sticking to the letter of the law (okay, I guess not that particular side note, but the food list!) but not the spirit.

Let me just keep justifying this a little bit longer so you know how deeply I considered the magnitude of this decision. 😉 I decided for me, I’d rather have E eat two eggs and a banana than mostly fruit and just pick at eggs. He’s making progress in this area, and I will regularly offer him the whole food (see lunch!) but he’s not overweight and I need to keep those lbs on! I’m a huge believer in the Division of Responsibility in Feeding, and just doing my part!

Let’s see the scandalous foods then, and there’ll be some additional justification in a bit. 😉 Told you today was naughty, but I wasn’t just going to show you the squeakiest of days.

How we are feeling: EXCELLENT. I’m ecstatic that my plan is working.

Four days in, and I’m working my tail off in the kitchen, but we are making headway! Ed has already tried tomatoes, asked for more onions, hard boiled eggs, and asked for salad (but not eaten it) numerous times. He’s also eaten enough yams to make me Google “can you eat too many sweet potatoes?” , but we’re all good. Kevin and I are doing great also, minus the dishes. They are insane when I’m prepping for Kevin’s work lunches, making our dinners, packing up extra leftovers for things. Oh well, It’s totally worth it.

Breakfast time:

Banana, eggs, and a little coconut flour. I’m indulging in Chameleon Cold Brew which I normally have been reserving for the afternoons. It just felt right since today seems like a Faux Friday.

Post-Y snacks. I did a pretty intense metcon (wall balls, burpees, kb swings plus stairs) and E played hard. It was super late so we rushed home for lunch.

Ed is super into carrots now! I’m elated! And he tried hard boiled eggs multiple times although he did seem to think the yolks were butter? I’m so happy my Tessemae’s ranch arrived. I LOVE IT! I can’t make paleo condiments. That’s just beyond my patience level at this point. It was so good on my salad with leftover grilled chicken and hard boiled eggs. I was tempted to eat a second salad during naptime.

But frozen berries with coconut milk won me over since my cheeks are still REALLY warm from that workout. A little more cold brew. Oops.

Okay, guys. Here’s the bad thing I’m going to do tonight. I have a BABYSITTER. So I’m going out to dinner at Brasa. We LOVE Brasa. It’s the restaurant that tricked us into thinking we’d like Minneapolis (hahahahahahaha— that’s for another post). The food is gluten free. It’s meat, yucca, plantains, etc. The reviews are a little mixed on if it’s “paleo enough” since rumor has it some of the oils they may use are not W30 compliant. Well, guess what? I’m not going to ask! I’m not at that level right now. If the food is compliant, I’m going to eat it happily and slowly when my toddler is not in tow. I’m THRILLED to be going out with my husband tonight and will enjoy every bite. Ed will be at home eating chicken, broccoli, and sweet potatoes (and loving it!).

My mom & Hannah are picking up a list for me from Trader Joe’s on their way to babysit because they are the BEST. I’m thrilled not to have to go there. It’s a long list and my sister is concerned about how much we are eating. Lol. I had to tell her that we also supplement heavily with Amazon Prime and we have a ButcherBox coming too!! And what??? Stocking up helps!

This coleslaw was pretty awesome, but I’ll warn you that the pineapple turns purple eventually which really freaked E out!

A LOT of grilled meat… really helps out with lunches. Okay, fine. One more confession. After eating the wraps, I found out the Applegate turkey has carrageenan, a thickener which is on the naughty list. I got TRICKED LIKE A ROOKIE since nearly all of the Applegate deli meats are fine. If you’re worried about pregnant ladies eating deli meat, first of all this, and second of all, I heated it up. 😉 I feel like such a rookie for not seeing that on the label. It was on sale too or I probably would’ve never grabbed ham AND turkey.

Two more toddler plates. My son actually has liked broccoli from birth, thank goodness! And yes, he eats sooo many yams. It’s typically what he has if we are having salad. On the left plate are roasted Carrots of Many Colors from Trader Joe’s. So delicious! And the rest is a simple meal of roasted diced chicken and sweet potatoes. On the right is taco salad, but with broccoli and yams. 🙂 He loved both plates.

Lumberjack 20

My sweet husband thought today would be a great day for us to finally  meet up with his co-worker who CrossFits for a workout at his box.  They’ve been talked about it for ages, but today was apparently the day. Today, when I’m oh, you know, 39 weeks & change pregnant. I thought about staying home or just watching, but I wanted to hang out and figured I might as well get a little sweat in.

Of course, they weren’t doing just any wod. They were doing the Hero Wod Lumberjack 20:

On November 5, 2009, at 1:34 p.m., a terrorist named Major Nidal Hasan attacked fellow soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood, Texas. When the shooting ended, he had killed 12 soldiers and one civilian and wounded 43 others.

Four of the slain soldiers, Spc. Frederick Greene, 29, of Mountain City, Tennessee, Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, 19, of West Jordan, Utah, Pfc. Michael Pearson, 22, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and Spc. Kham Xiong, 23, of St. Paul, Minnesota, along with eleven of the wounded were active CrossFitters in the 20th Engineer Battalion, home to Lumberjack CrossFit.

With a 400m row in between each movement. It’s supposed to be a 400m run, but it was icy out in the boonies where their gym is. Also, they were cleaning the inside of their gym so we decided to do the wod out on the patio. That ended up being a GREAT idea, especially for a pregnant girl who is trying to avoid overheating. The breeze was amazing. I thought about halving everything, but all the weights were pretty light for me so I decided to start and see where it went. I had every intention of stopping around the 2o minute mark (or before) if I wasn’t feeling great. Sometimes a lot of cardio can get to me so I’ve had to drop out of a few workouts.

Instead, I just moved very slowly. I took water breaks, snapped pics of Kevin, and just rowed very slowly.

I did modified burpees (of course!!!), step-ups, ring rows, and I just finished with front squats since I’m not comfortable doing cleans at this point. 185lb deadlifts (sumo style) and 75lb overhead squats were no problem since they are light weights for me and very easy to control. For whatever reason they didn’t want to bring dumbbells out, and it’s not my gym so I just went with it.

There were only three other people doing the wod with us so it was just really fun & relaxed. What a fun space to workout in and just as the sun was really starting to shine!!!

I think I finished around 30 minutes. I wasn’t exactly watching the clock, and I didn’t have my glasses on. 🙂 Can’t wait to RX this one someday although 20 chest-to-bar pull-ups would be extremely difficult for me even if in my best shape.

Yeah, we don’t hate our Denver weather — this is the weather for the week of our baby’s due date in late January. 🙂

On our way back home through the suburbs, we made an unplanned trip to Trader Joe’s. I’m trying to stock up a little bit on some convenience foods, mostly some sausages/meat to keep in the freezer for baby time. I also wanted to buy some of their prepared frozen foods but after looking at the ingredients… that just didn’t work out for me. Oh well. I need to make a stop at Whole Foods one of these days because I keep seeing people post pics of their paleo displays.

Pippa C. demanded a walk when we got home so I took her out for a good two miles while I caught up on some podcasts. Kevin is back to work on house projects, but I seriously need to relax for a few hours. I got an awesome stash from the library this week plus a few extremely important things to research on the internet.

I got the best time for the ladies at our box in a workout this week @ 39 weeks! I can’t brag too much though. It was just, of course, my one trick —> double unders!!!! I’ll take what I can get!

I actually would’ve finished well under 4 minutes, but for some reason the last round of dubs took me probably a full minute!!! They’re just getting way more cardio for me with all the added weight. The 25lb dumbbells were cake for me especially since I’ve been doing a lot more dumbbell work while pregnant. It was fun to do well in a workout and do it exactly as prescribed. We also did a little strength EMOM — 2 splits jerks at 110lbs EMOM for 8 minutes. Not bad at all. I don’t have a 1 rep max for my split jerks since I’ve mainly only practiced them at 8-9 months pregnant so my 80% was supposed to be around 95lbs, but I wasn’t going to do a weight I could strict press. 110lbs ended up being work, but not too hard. Who knows how many more workouts I will have before the baby comes. I’m actually NOT trying to induce labor at this point so I’m taking it pretty easy which, OF COURSE, means something different for everyone. My family is currently placing bets on the day the baby will come, but I think it’s going to be a while.

Before (Everything) & After

Here’s a spicy delicious buffalo chicken soup I made yesterday:

Of course, I just threw things in so I’ll never be able to recreate it exactly. But it was leftover chicken, sweet potatoes, celery, onions, carrots, buffalo sauce, a fresh jalapeño, s&p, and chicken broth! I’m very proud because I turned a  little bit of leftover chicken into lots of work lunches for us this week! Plus it’s so spicy that it forces me to drink extra water! That can’t be bad. 🙂

Sooo… 3 days until the baby is full-term (37 weeks), and 10 days until he can be born at the birth center (as opposed to the hospital) according to their guidelines. Also, only 10 more work days for me (Monday-Thursdays). A lot more days until his due date which (so far), I’m hoping he waits for or goes over. That said, my only TRUE resolution for 2015 is to keep this little human alive and happy!

Here are some things I’m enjoying in January BEFORE the baby comes:

  1. Sleeping in. Since I don’t work until the afternoon, if I sleep in, I sleep in. I sort of feel guilty when Kevin leaves for work, but then I go back to sleep. 🙂
  2. Eating out + some bonus Date Nights with my cute & funny husband.
  3. Making dinner for friends. Carnitas tonight!
  4. Extra Pippa snuggles. Because yes, sadly, she’s going to be downgraded once I have a human baby to snuggle. I hear babies smell better too, or at least when their diapers are clean.
  5. Going to CrossFit with Kevin. I’ve actually gone a bunch of times when I really didn’t feel like it, just because I know that our days going together are numbered. We LOVE working out together.
  6. My manicure & coffee girl dates.
  7. Ignoring our baby to-do list and just hanging out. It’ll get done.

Things I’m looking forward to in 2015 AFTER the baby comes:

  1. Meeting him, of course!!! A little person that’s half me and half Kevin? Who has been growing inside me for 9 months. SO WEIRD!!! But it’ll be great.
  2. The first week as the three of us. I emailed Kevin yesterday and told him that I think it’s going to be The Best Week of Our Lives. Except for maybe all of the pain…. But hey, that’s temporary, right?
  3. Naming our baby. Yeah, we’re still not totally committed to a name. There are some options, but I can’t quite be 100% sure. Also seeing his BLUE eyes.
  4. Putting on shoes a lot more easily.
  5. Lying on my back.
  6. All the baby firsts!
  7. Taking his pic like crazy. I just uploaded all my photos to Amazon Prime free photo storage this week. I’m ready!!!!!
  8. Reading books to our baby and taking him on lots of walks!
  9. Watching everyone do the CrossFit Open. I’m going to be sad to not be doing it myself, but hey, no pressure for me!! I’m so excited to be spectator though.
  10. I don’t even know what other spectacular baby stuff I have to look forward to because, hey, I’m new!!!

Things we still really need to DO for this baby:

  1. Find him a stroller. This is probably my top concern right now. I don’t know what stroller I want. We have pretty much decided on buying a good quality stroller ($$$$$$$) instead of a second car. That makes spending the money a little bit easier if you think about it that way, right?? But I still can’t commit to a stroller that costs over a grand. I’m positive that I will use it constantly, and it should have great resale value in my hipster area, but I still just don’t know. Of course, I’ve been looking on Craigslist too. I actually found the double Bugaboo stroller (hilariously named the DONKEY!!!) available on Craigslist for a decent price. But I don’t want to give Kevin any ideas about a second baby… And I’m just not sure how I’d feel about pushing a donkey around all the time with only one child in it. Haha. And don’t say anything about Bobs…. those things are SO UGLY. I won’t do it. Okay, maybe I will someday if I get desperate. But I’d really prefer a more urban mom type stroller that can handle some terrain. I don’t necessarily need a jogging stroller because I’m not really a runner anymore *gasp.* However, I do sort of like the City Mini, and it’s really affordable! Do you have a stroller you love??? I noticed a lot of new strollers came out in 2015. I’m particularly interested in the Nuna strollers, but they have no reviews yet…
  2. Buy some diapers. That’s really the only other thing we need for him to survive, right? But who knew choosing diapers was such a thing? I know I seem like I would be a cloth diaper girl since I’m going the midwifery route, but I’m SO NOT! (And Kevin is so grateful). It’s just so gross. And I know it’s just one too many things for me right now. I should just subscribe to some through Amazon, but I don’t knowwwww. When push comes to shove, I’ll just buy some, right??
  3. Practice using my camera a little more. It’ll probably still be a lot of iPhone pics, but as long as we bought it…
  4. Make some practice folders for my sweet piano students who are getting a long break (at least until the beginning of April), but I want to keep them practicing. I have some fun ideas in mind.
  5. Find a babysitter. We’re going to look into hiring someone to come in about 10 hours a week when I resume teaching. I can’t believe we’re going to be separated!!! Haha. But I’m hoping for an in-home sitter, so that should make me feel better. That’s what’s right for us right now, but it’s going to be expensive in Denver even for what should be the easiest babysitting job ever!
  6. Pack the hospital bag!
  7. We don’t even know… haha.

Also, don’t tell me they’re blue. I know I don’t like blue, but I’m okay with navy/chambray/denim. Those don’t count!! And as irritating as it is, the color blue will more than likely sneak into my house a little bit.

Okay, so there MIGHT be a few CrossFit things I’m looking forward to in 2015 as well:

  1. Omg, just doing a real burpee again. I don’t care. I love burpees. I just want to be able hit chest & thighs to the floor again.
  2. Deadlifting 300+ lbs. Positive I can do it this year. I was super tempted to try at about 4-5 mos, but decided against it.
  3. Just being able to workout HARD. I’m so sick and tired of taking water breaks. Lol. This is true.
  4. Seeing if I can still do double unders without lady problems. Everyone has been warning me forever. But who knows. If I can still crank them out, then TRIPLE UNDERS are mine for the taking.
  5. Just upping my lifts in general. All my pr’s are just waiting to be smashed at this point, but we’ll have to see how my recovery goes after the baby. Just general health and recovery is my first priority. I don’t want to rush myself back into it before I’m ready. There’s no way of knowing what that will look like.
  6. My scale weight is something I have learned is overrated, but I’m just looking forward to being myself again. And eating strict sugar-free/paleo! I seriously can’t wait to do that. I haven’t gone crazy by any means during pregnancy, but if I need a Lara Bar in the afternoon, I eat it. And I can tell I’ve had more sugar overall than normal.

There are also a few things I’m NOT looking forward to in CrossFit/exercise:

  1. Relearning strict pull-ups. 😦 😦 😦 They were so hard to learn to begin with. I practiced 392+ times. Really! I’m hoping my body remembers at least somewhat, but I’ll also be heavier for a while so that’s not going to make my life any easier.
  2. My old goats: handstand push-ups, toes-to-bar, dips….. are you sensing a theme here??? Bodyweight movements are not my strength.
  3. Also, this is ridiculous, but I feel nervous to do handstands, box jumps, and rope climbs again. People, I’m a true pansy at heart. If I can do CrossFit, anyone can.
  4. Just scheduling. I have no idea when we are going to go to CrossFit because of my work schedule/Kevin’s long commute, and hey, we want to spend time together as a family! Most likely 7pms aren’t going to really work at all for us anymore. 😦 Our favorite class time. That means we might be looking at morning classes. And we hate mornings. Lol.

Minnesota Shoveling Tricks + Paleo Thanksgiving for 2

The first was Kevin’s dad attempting to clear the snow off of our car’s headlights from the safety of his garage. Hahaha. It was blustery!

When we arrived back in Wabasha, we discovered my mom shoveling with this beast of a man-powered snow plow. Nice!!!!!! Needles to say that we are very thankful for our garage and also don’t mind the fact that we don’t have a driveway (garage backs to alley). I also don’t hate that Colorado is going to be 50’s & 60’s this week! Hooray!!!

bloedow's donuts winonaAnd Kevin splurged on The Best Donuts Ever. I’m really not a donut person, but I am a Sprinkle Person so I had a few bites of one of the sprinkle long johns. Bloedow’s Donuts is so cute — I love their wallpaper! It’s been open since the 1920’s, and I feel like not that much has changed!

Now is probably a good time to mention that we went back to the gym last night….. after about 5 days off, a Thanksgiving dinner, travel, and a lot of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate Mint Truffle Kisses (the best)!!!

RX: THE SEVEN (TIME)

7 Knees-To-Elbows

7 Kettlebell Swings, 70#
7 Pull-ups

Nothing like jumping right back in! Both Kevin and I felt terrible during the workout. I did the RX women’s weight for thrusters (95), deadlifts (175), and kb swings (55), and those were kind of the easy parts for me. I modified the hspus to dumbbell strict presses — I used 25’s, and I was able to easily crank those out unbroken each time. One of those days where I probably need 30’s, but the jump to 35’s probably would’ve actually killed me. I did K2E to the best of my ability, and had to modify burpees for the first time. 😦 I guess I can’t complain — made it to 30+ weeks doing them as prescribed, but I just felt like it was going to be a safety issue at this point. I’ve grown rapidly since about week 27. I also modified pull-ups to ring rows. I did 2 pull-ups. I was going to do a few each round, but that didn’t work out due to logistical issues. I would’ve been okay during the wod, wasn’t really feeling that tired and was consistently able to do good sets. However, I was struggling with a little reflux which is just plain nasty when you are working that hard. The only cure is to drink a LOT of water which just makes moving more uncomfortable. I just kept on going. Very. Slowly. I finished in 43:17. Can’t wait to try this workout someday when I’m not pregnant.

The great news is that Kevin is really inspired to eat healthy again and even agreed to let me do a paleo Thanksgiving for us tomorrow. Trust me, we will probably never be able to pass up a traditional dinner with family. But since we already had one….

I pinned a few things here, but of course, we will also be having BACON and TURKEY.

paleo thanksgiving for 2We’ll most likely make a decent-sized turkey (although we’ve procrastinated on buying it!!) because we actually like the meat and leftovers!!!!! Kevin has also agreed to do a (slightly modified) 21DSD during December 1-21 in conjunction with our Concept 2 Holiday Rowing Challenge. Should be a lot of fun!!! We don’t have any trips or guests planned so it shouldn’t be too hard to stay consistent. I’m going to plan the whole menu this weekend and get super prepped. Plus it’s really good for our little baby boy and his parents!!!

Homemade + Pippa’s Turn

I’ve been feeling really domestic this week! During my Sunday Sewing Time (football games + DIY time for Kevin), I started working on this pillow for my friend’s birthday. I actually ended up totally scrapping my first attempt, but I tried again on Monday, and it turned out (pretty) great! If you don’t look too closely. 🙂

My project was loosely based on this DIY from Design*Sponge, but of course, I sew about like I cook — highly improvisational. The only problem is that I don’t quite have the sewing skills yet to make that work. I used a super soft minky gray fabric and a white fleece which were very difficult to sew because they are so thick, and it’s hard to see where you’re going! But I’m proud to say that I fixed every machine jam myself as well as replaced the needle! Of course, now I’m inspired to make more pillows even though it took forever!!

Paleo Pumpkin Pie Bites with Coconut Milk Whipped Cream. These were definitely very easy, but I’ll warn you — on the tart side if you’re accustomed to eating sugar. I had to warn everyone so they wouldn’t be super disappointed when they bit into them. But then everyone said they liked them! Haha. Hard to say if they were just being nice. I liked them. I ate all of the leftovers on the way home.

Pippa Cordelia had an exciting day yesterday starting with this cute cat perched on the fence teasing her. Awwwa!!!

Pippa had stepped in some and gotten it alllllll over our bed and all over the house. Late night sink bath!!! Pippa absolutely hated the humiliation of it all. She wouldn’t even eat treats.

Drawers!

Hi! Hope you had a great weekend! I spent most of my Sunday working on a (fairly unsuccessful) sewing project and listening to TED Talks… I’m sort of addicted and I couldn’t resist checking out the ones from Modern Mrs.Darcy’s list this week. The bad news is that I’m going to have to scrap my project. The good news is that I learned a lot and also that I saw it coming and bought plenty of extra fabric.

Kevin spent the day pouring cement in our old bedroom/new baby-ish room. Isn’t that weird? He ripped out the final piece of carpet yesterday (HOORAY!!!!!!!!! Pippa was not as house trained as the shelter told us when we first got her….), and the floor has to be leveled before we switch it out for some laminate type wood flooring. Obviously my only participation in this is getting him water and snacks. But, in my defense, I did help move a lot of furniture last weekend…. Haha. My husband goes to the gym with me so it’s hard to sell him on the pregnancy excuse unless it’s something that could legitimately be dangerous.

They are MUCH harder to find than cute girl clothes, but I’m all about the plaid, the Brannan Bear stuff from Baby Gap, and obviously baby skinny jeans! There are also some camo pants and a preppy little sweater outfit tucked in there.

Week 27 Wod Recaps That Only I Care About:

Made it to CrossFit 5x during week 27. I can willingly admit that I am feeling less and less motivated to go, but I still feel much better when I do. Monday’s dirty little row/run wod was the wod I quit — although I still did 4 rounds. Tuesday I totally hemmed & hawed about going to do thrusters & burpee bar hops, but in the end I was glad I did. I “pr’ed” my thruster by 10lbs for 125 thruster. I say “pr” because I hadn’t really ever tried before – I had done 115 a while back at home but hadn’t tried any higher. 125 went up easy, but I had no interested in trying anything heavier. Sadly, my clean is the limiting factor. Haha. It gets a little sloppy after 130-135, and now really isn’t the time to work on it. I was shockingly able to bust out the burpee bar hops. My burpees are now go down to knees (however!), push-up, then back up. Haha. Ten times slower. Put that on the list of things that used to be my favorite but are now the worst!!! People keep asking me how much longer I’m going to do things… until my belly is in the way or at risk in any way. As long as that’s under control. Nasty Girls on Thursday wasn’t so bad because I had to sub ring rows & parallette dips for muscle-ups. I’ve never been even close to getting ring dips — so hopefully the pregnant weighted training will help them? Haha.

So running short distances and t2b are the worst (after burpees) so about half the workout was stupid for me. I can’t exactly do t2b at this point. I could probably do one, but it takes some strategizing to get my toes around my belly so it’s not going to happen in a wod. I actually did 95lbs (the RX+) for the deadlift and shoulder to overhead movements, and those were still clearly the easiest parts for me. 95 is NBD especially when I can’t go super hard. Saturday is my day to just get to the gym and move a little… although I did get stuck with a 16lb wall ball because of the enormous class size. It actually felt about the same. Haha. Good training, right? Hoping to keep going 4-5x as possible. One thing that will also slow me down is the weather— if I want to go on a Tues./Thurs. I have to go during the day which means I have to walk. So if it gets too cold or gross, I’ll be at home.

I did 25 heavy doubles during Open Gym with my new CrossRope. So fun!! Now I have to figure out how to string two together. It’s hard to get that kind of momentum going!

Here are a few more baby/pregnancy updates:

  • I had an appt at the midwifery this week. As tempted as I am to complain about an appt for no reason, it’s only the third time I’ve been there in about 7 months…. sooo….. I’ll shut up about it. The good news is that I got a perfectly fine blood pressure reading. I knew it!!!!!! I’ve randomly gotten some high readings I think mostly due to random anxiety, but this midwife thought it was probably only due to cuff size… I have muscles, don’t constrict them…. Haha. Anyways, 120/70. I’ll take it.
  • My next appt is for my glucose test. The midwifery gave me two organic apple juice boxes from Whole Foods…. haha. I’m not thrilled about the whole process, but it’s better than what I’d get at a more traditional clinic!!!
  • I’ve made the baby a few playlists. Actually, I did it a long time ago, but it came up this week with Kevin and he acted so surprised. I don’t know why?! I am a music teacher after all! Also — babies learn a lot before they’re born! He can recognize the music after he’s born. Maybe I’d better stop listening to Shake It Off! Hah. Never.
  • We still don’t have a baby name. Just can’t commit! I did get another fun book from the library that’s a reverse dictionary based on meaning.
  • I have some beautiful Pinterest Boards —Baby Boy Clothes That Are Actually Cute,  Baby/Kid RoomsMaternity Clothes, & CrossFit Moms.
  • We had pizza (Pizza Alley — yay!!) on Halloween because I just was not up for any of the tacky pregnant Halloween costumes. Maybe I’m just a whiner, but the baby hates pizza. The junk food hangover was unreal. I probably could’ve handled a piece, but why would I eat one when I could eat 3? Haha. It’s going to be a while before that happens again.

Boyd’s Latest Mischief

Kevin put together our crib this weekend! Of course, we couldn’t resist letting our firstborn Boykin try it out!

He wasn’t a fan. Don’t worry, there’s no way he would even remotely consider jumping in on his own. The only way we were able to snap a cute pic was by some extreme coaxing with popcorn.  So far we love our Babyletto mini crib. It’s pretty easy without a baby in it. 🙂 Kevin put it together during a football game on Sunday just to give us an idea what it would like in our space(s). We plan to use it in both of the two back bedrooms. It’s very light and on wheels! It’ll camp out most of the time in our bedroom, but it’ll also have a space in the adjacent gray bedroom where our marigold couch currently resides. We’re not exactly making a nursery, but we are working on the finishing touches in both rooms. Kevin is putting up some crown molding next weekend, and I’m still on the hunt for curtains!

Boyd Bear also gave us quite a scare last night! Kevin and I had a little miscommunication about where the dogs were, and BBear managed to scoot out the garage door. I was teaching piano lessons so we didn’t notice that he was missing for an HOUR!!!! Normally it’s no big deal if Boyd tries to get out because he’s soooo slow. But when we realized it’d been an hour, we freaked out!!!!! We decided to look for him on foot first, and thank God, I found him exactly three doors down! I don’t know exactly what happened, but that’s all the farther he got. A neighbor and her dog were back there with him, and he was just chilling — happy as can be!! I was terrified that he was going to get run over because he’s not exactly observant. The good news is that when dogs get out in our neighborhood, there are always so many other dogs nearby for them to play with. Of course, our phone number has worn off Boyd’s collar tag (he’s really hard on things — Pippa’s is totally fine!) so this was our reminder to get him a new one!!! So we spoiled him like crazy for the rest of the night. Kevin says that Pippa wasn’t so happy to see him come back. She was hoping he was gone for good!!! Hahahahaha. She’d love to be an only dog.

crossfit compThis weekend we had a chance to cheer on two friends from our box as well as one of Kevin’s work buddies at another CF comp. It’s so fun to watch & just cheer without having the pressure on you. But at the same time, I’m like…. I really want to try that!!! I wonder what time I could do that in. Blah, blah, blah.

basement egress windowOur beautiful new egress window in the basement. The contractors made my dogs crazy for three days, but it was worth it. I’m excited to be making the basement into a more usable space… someday soon. Kevin has a lot of projects on his plate!!!

Baby updates:

  • I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I puked for the first time this weekend!! Haha. I learned the hard way that I can NOT tolerate vitamins on an empty stomach. I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out, I had a few waves of nausea over the last week that really confused me. It’s because I’ve finally gotten more committed to taking my vitamins and taking them earlier in the day. Oops!!!!! Of course, that hardly counts. I was fine as soon as the vitamins were out and proceeded to eat bacon & eggs and yogurt. Prior to this weekend, I hadn’t thrown up in 10+ years!!!!! I had been bragging about it very recently, so I guess pride comes before a fall. I even managed to escape all the parasites and bugs the Americans got while I was living in the DR. Oh well! This hardly counts since I wasn’t actually sick. 🙂
  • I had “dinner” at Panda Express on Sunday. Just saying, I don’t always eat just right, but I try to about 90% of the time, especially while pregnant. I know Panda can’t be “better” than most fast food places, but it doesn’t bother my stomach the way things like pizza do. And for whatever reason, I love that place!! I really do. It’s so good. The good news is that I really love sweet potatoes, Kerrygold, grassfed beef, and broccoli more, especially the way I feel after I eat them. Haha. I really haven’t experienced pregnancy cravings other than a mild urge to eat more carbs which is pretty natural. So I eat more carbs.
  • We acquired a few more baby clothes! They are so tiny & cute. I’ve been really into looking at baby stuff online and pinning all the things. Not actually buying or doing… just looking for now.
  • We have a few more ideas for baby names. Here’s something weird we discovered. Kevin and I both have a preference for names that are more easily recognizable in other cultures/countries. Of course, there aren’t really names that work everywhere, but there are definitely some names that translate more easily. “Corrie” is not one of them. Especially since it’s very close to corre (run!) in Spanish. Of course, this isn’t a deal breaker if we love a name, but one of us always brings it up when we are tossing out ideas!
  • I sent out an email about piano lessons this week…. there are only about 7 classes left before January!!! And then the baby could come anytime… That is SO crazy.
